Self-drive hire insurance broker launches scheme for Motorhomes
Self-drive hire insurance specialist, Alan Boswell Group, has launched a new scheme for businesses who rent out motorhomes and motorcaravans.

The new scheme means that self-drive hire operators can now get insurance cover specially designed to reflect the risks they face when renting out motorhomes.

The policy offers wide protection, including for contingencies not generally covered such as fire damage to a rented motorhome caused by cooking or heating appliances.

Cover for theft or conversion of a motorhome by the hirer is also included as standard and the premiums reflect the different risk that these particular vehicles represent.

Self-drive hire motorhomes gaining popularity


Mark Casey, Account Executive in AB Group's self-drive hire insurance division, explains the thinking behind the scheme:

"Rental of motorhomes and motorcaravans on a self-drive basis is becoming more and more popular. Having already established ourselves as self-drive hire insurance specialists, we set up this scheme to cater specifically for the self-drive operators who have motorcaravans for hire."

Cover is arranged on an annual basis which Casey says has some real benefits for motorhome rental operations:

"Our annual policy allows for an unlimited number of hires. This is something that full-time SDH operators told us was important. They want to maximise their earnings from each vehicle. Their insurance costs are fixed at the outset so, for example, they can hire a motorhome at reduced rates in the off-season when demand is lower and rental charges have to be reduced."

The broker says it can cover most self-drive motorhome operations: from a single campervan to a whole fleet of luxury A-Class motorhomes.
