Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Can I buy this cover if I'm not a member of the First Tutors?
Answer: No: this scheme is only available to members of the First Tutors and you must supply a current membership number when you purchase or renew cover.
Question: Can I cancel the insurance?
Answer: You may cancel the insurance by giving us 30 days' notice in writing, but please note that no refunds are payable upon cancellation of the cover for whatever reason.
Question: Can I upgrade my cover or make changes to my policy?
Answer: Yes, you can change your personal details, upgrade the indemnity limit or renew your policy online.
Question: Do I need to tell you if my correspondence address or email changes?
Answer: Yes: please use the online form.
Question: How will I receive my documents?
Answer: As soon as you complete the online purchase your documents will be available in PDF format for saving to your computer or printing. We will also send copies of your documents to your email address.
Question: How will my renewal be dealt with?
Answer: We will send you an email with details of your renewal approximately 30 days before the cover is due to expire. The email will explain how to renew your cover using this web site.
Question: I have previously had a claim made against me. Can I still take out this cover?
Answer: If you have had a previous claim made against you then you will need to provide us with full details. It is essential that you disclose any previous claims whether paid or not. In most cases we will still be able to provide cover, but we cannot do so online. You will need to contact us by telephone on 01953 455 600 or email ascl@alanboswell.com.
Question: Is there an excess on this policy?
Answer: No excess applies to the first claim you make in any year. Subsequent claims in the same year are subject to a £250 excess if made under the Public Liability section and £500 if made under the Professional Indemnity section.
Question: Is this site secure?
Answer: Yes: We use 128 bit encryption to secure your data.
Question: What information do I need to supply in order to purchase cover?
Answer: ll we require is your name and address, your ASCL membership number and payment details. The whole process takes just a few minutes from start to finish.

Answer: The Alan Boswell Group is a well-established and reputable insurance and financial services company specialising in affinity schemes.
Question: Who is the insurer?
Answer: The insurer behind the scheme is Hiscox; a major international company with offices in 12 countries and customers around the world.
Question: Will I be covered for work carried out abroad?
Answer: No: the policy only covers you for activities carried out in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
Question: Will I be covered for work carried out for OFSTED?
Answer: Yes: The policy automatically includes cover for work you carry out for OFSTED for up to a maximum of 20 days per year and provided your annual income from all your private teaching, lecturing, coaching and educational consultancy and advisory activities amounts to less than £75,000.
