Motorhome and Motor Caravan Self-Drive Hire Insurance
The lowest excess is generally £250 but for higher value vehicles you can expect a £500 excess to apply to most damage claims (including glass breakage) and a 25% co-insurance clause.
The insurers generally restrict cover on motor home self drive hire to those aged between 25 and 70 years and those who have held a Full UK or EU licence for 2 years. As usual, exceptions to these restrictions will be considered by the underwriters on a case-by-case basis.
Insurers require that we refer to them for approval before you hire to any drivers who do not hold a current UK driving licence. However, provided the driver concerned had a good driving record they will normally agree to provide cover.
The most important factor in the rating of motorhomes is the value of the vehicle. For example, a VW Campervan with a market value of £8,000 might cost £1,300 a year. A mid-range motorhome with a value of £25,000 would typically cost around £1,680 a year. An A-class motorhome with a market value of £72,000 might cost around £3,150 a year. Please remember that these are just example premiums and each case is considered by the underwriters on an individual basis. Full written quotations are available on request for your particular vehicle and personal circumstances.
