Following Account Handler Emma Fickling’s acceptance into the 2018 London Marathon she decided to write a blog about her training to help keep her focussed and share her experience.
Find out how she has been getting on below in part two of her story…
“Training has been going well despite the cold weather and dark nights. I had my first road race of the year and mile marker at Freethorpe on Sunday 28th January and it was 12 degrees so a nice temperature to run in. I wore my Big C training top to inspire me on the way round the course.
When I started this marathon journey I wasn’t quite sure where it would lead. I have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity and support and I think together we can reach my target of £1,500 and I have high hopes of exceeding this with your help.
I was contacted by Big C last week, who have seen my blog on our website and they’ve asked if they could feature this on their site and social channels and possibly even within the local media. I was delighted! It all helps towards raising awareness and sponsorship for this amazing charity.
When I think about what gets me out of the door on a cold winter morning it’s the feeling of the fresh air and freedom but it is also about being able to physically do something to help others. Running, for me, is not about speed or winning it is about so many other things. After all it is a marathon not a sprint!
Without sponsorship and donations Big C would not be able to help fund research into cancer right here in Norfolk and Waveney at the UEA and the Norwich Research Park.
So…my journey continues to grow and alongside being an Account Handler at Alan Boswell Group I am studying for my CII Insurance Exams. Alan Boswell Group invests in its employees and are always encouraging them to grow professionally, from formal examinations to supporting new starters with apprenticeships.”
