About us Insurance Adviser Trainee Scheme

Are you an enthusiastic, driven and motivated individual?

Are you looking for a future in the insurance and financial services industry?

Would you like to:

  • Gain training and qualifications without going to university?
  • Earn a competitive salary?
  • Work alongside experienced staff?
  • Work for a reputable company?

The Alan Boswell Group Difference

“I applied because I wanted a job with structure (Monday – Friday, 9-5) that I could pursue a career in. The company seems like an excellent company to work for, with lots of staff benefits and everyone in the team is lovely. I feel the atmosphere is positive and friendly and I have settled in well. To begin with the job seemed daunting and there was a lot to learn, however the support network and training has been brilliant. The senior members of staff have always been on hand to answer any questions and support any wobbles. I feel as though things are finally starting to click and I am enjoying the challenging side to my role, alongside customer interaction. I look forward to learning more and reaching a point of full confidence in my role.”

Alan Boswell Group Trainee Scheme

As an insurance and financial planning group with nearly 40 years’ experience, our longevity and reputation are the result of doing things a little differently going the extra mile for our people and our clients.

We have offices across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, and employ over 350 dedicated staff. The Group prides itself on its reputation for exceptional customer service provided to over 50,000 clients.

Our Trainee Scheme has been running since 2010, and we encourage applicants throughout the year.  You will undertake an apprenticeship alongside your role to gain your professional qualification within general insurance.

About the Trainee Scheme

The purpose of our Trainee Scheme is to provide you with a professional and friendly environment in which you can develop your career and become the next generation of Alan Boswell Insurance Brokers employees.

This will be based in either our Norwich or Cambridge office, be a permanent full time role with competitive salary and career progression.

How long is the Trainee Scheme?

The Trainee Scheme is over a period of two years whilst you undertake your Apprenticeship, although you will be contracted as a permanent employee from day one. Within that time, you’ll have first-hand experience of working in a variety of departments to really understand what the insurance industry is all about, including:

  • Personal lines – such as car and home insurance
  • Commercial – insurance for businesses
  • Claims – how we handle insurances when something goes wrong
  • Underwriting – wording of policies and schemes

As part of the apprenticeship scheme you will have 20% of your work time dedicated to focus and develop the required skills, knowledge and behaviours to achieve the apprenticeship.

“I applied for an apprenticeship as I wanted to gain experience in a professional environment as I was unsure what I wanted to do as a career. Since I have joined, I have learnt how in depth conflicted liability can be in terms of motor claims, the importance of good organisation, to keep on top of work, and how things in day to day life impact your insurance. I really enjoy being part of a team in an office environment.”

Will I earn money while I am a trainee?

  • Eligibility to our discretionary Group bonus
  • Holidays and sick pay

What qualifications will I gain?

We will fund your studies to achieve Insurance Practitioner level 3 incorporating an End Point Assessment.  You will be given training and hands-on experience to gain qualifications without going to university. The Apprenticeship will also support you to study the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII) certificate, helping you gain a professional qualification within 18 months of joining the Group.

This is just the beginning of training with Alan Boswell Group – we are proud of our people and their contribution to our business so we provide support and training throughout your whole career with us.

As part of the trainee scheme we would like you to have the following qualifications as a minimum: 5 GCSE’s at Grades 9 to 4 (including English and Maths)

What will I do day-to-day?

From day one you will be trained on our insurance products and systems so that you are working as one of the team, as any other new member of staff would be. Initially trained in one product, within a few weeks you will be working with your colleagues and speaking to our customers. You will be responsible for quoting new business, renewing policies and office administration as part of building a wide base of core insurance broking skills.

Throughout this scheme you will continue to build on your technical skills and develop your insurance product knowledge leading you to specialise into one of our many departments throughout the business.
