Eva ParrI applied because I wanted a job with structure (Monday – Friday, 9-5) that I could pursue a career in. The company seems like an excellent company to work for, with lots of staff benefits, and everyone in the team is lovely. The atmosphere is positive and friendly, and I have settled in well. To begin with, the job seemed daunting, and there was a lot to learn; however, the support network and training have been brilliant. The staff members have always been on hand to answer any questions and support any wobbles. I feel things are finally starting to click, and I am enjoying the challenging side of my role alongside customer interaction. I look forward to learning more and reaching a point of full confidence in my role.

  • The apprenticeship scheme is over a period of two years, although you will be contracted as a permanent employee from day one. Within that time, you’ll have first-hand experience working in a variety of departments to understand what the insurance industry is all about, including:

    • Personal lines – such as car and home insurance
    • Commercial – insurance for businesses
    • Claims – how we handle insurance when something goes wrong
    • Underwriting – the wording of policies and schemes

As part of the apprenticeship scheme, you will have 20% of your work time dedicated to focusing and developing the required skills, knowledge, and behaviours to achieve your qualification.

  • We offer a competitive apprentice salary, a minimum of £21,000 per annum, and our trainees are employed on a full-time, permanent basis, so you will also receive company benefits, including:

    • Pension contributions
    • Medical cash plan
    • Eligibility to our discretionary Group bonus
    • Holidays and sick pay
    • Bonus on achieving your Cert CII
  • We will fund your studies to achieve Insurance Practitioner level 3 incorporating an End Point Assessment.  You will be given training and hands-on experience to gain qualifications without attending university. The apprenticeship will also support you in studying for the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII) certificate, helping you gain a professional qualification within 18 months of joining the Group.

This is just the beginning of training with Alan Boswell Group – we are proud of our people and their contribution to our business, so we provide support and training throughout your whole career with us.

  • Your personal qualities are important to us – we want to employ a person, not a robot!

We are looking for someone who is:

    • An enthusiastic and motivated team player
    • Willing to learn, grow, and help out
    • Approachable, positive, and focussed
    • Passionate about succeeding, with a desire to start a career within insurance
    • Proud to maintain a high standard of work with good attention to detail
    • Good with technology and confident talking to people
    • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and embracing change

Of course, these are all the qualities we’d love you to bring to the Group but don’t worry if you’re not sure – we’ll coach you and develop these skills throughout the trainee scheme and your apprenticeship.

As part of the trainee scheme, we would like you to have the following qualifications as a minimum: five GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (including English and Maths).

  • From day one, you will be trained on our insurance products and systems so that you are working as one of the team, as any other new staff member would be. Initially trained in one product, within a few weeks, you will be working with your colleagues and speaking to our customers. You will be responsible for quoting new business, renewing policies, and office administration as part of building a wide base of core insurance broking skills.

Throughout this scheme, you will continue to build on your technical skills and develop your insurance product knowledge, leading you to specialise in one of our many departments throughout the business.

You will also be working towards your industry professional CII qualifications.

Ethan Kerswill

I applied for an apprenticeship as I wanted to gain experience in a professional environment, and I was unsure what I wanted to do as a career. Since I joined, I have learnt how in-depth conflicted liability can be in terms of motor claims, the importance of good organisation, keeping on top of work, and how day-to-day life impacts your insurance. I really enjoy being part of a team in an office environment.
