Apprenticeship Scheme

Are you an enthusiastic, driven and motivated individual?

Are you looking for a future in the insurance and financial services industry?

Would you like to:

  • Gain training and qualifications without going to university?
  • Earn a competitive salary?
  • Work alongside experienced staff?
  • Work for a reputable company?

Then look no further!

As an insurance and financial planning group with more than 35 years’ experience, our longevity and reputation are the result of doing things a little differently and going the extra mile for our people and our clients.

We have offices across Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, and employ over 370 dedicated staff. The Group prides itself on its reputation for exceptional customer service provided to over 50,000 clients.

Our apprenticeship scheme has been running since 2010, and we encourage applicants throughout the year, mainly in either September or January.

I think apprenticeships are a great way to learn. I feel valued as a team member and I’m doing the same job as everyone else. I learn so much and not just about insurance – ABG has helped develop my interpersonal skills like communication. I like the support we get from everyone and the flexibility to attend external courses too.

Alice Legood, 2018 apprentice

The purpose of our apprenticeship scheme is to provide you with a professional and friendly environment in which you can develop your career and become the next generation of Alan Boswell Group employees.

How long is the apprenticeship programme?

The apprenticeship scheme is over a period of three years, although you will be contracted as a permanent employee from day one*. Within that time, you’ll have first-hand experience of working in a variety of departments to really understand what the insurance industry is all about, including:

  • Personal lines – such as car and home insurance
  • Commercial – insurance for businesses
  • Claims – how we handle insurances when something goes wrong
  • Underwriting – wording of policies and schemes

*as long as you complete your 6 month probationary period

Will I earn money while I am an apprentice?

Alan Boswell Group offers a competitive apprentice salary, which is above the minimum wage, to complement your training programme and our apprentices are employed on a full-time permanent basis which mean you will also receive company benefits including:

  • Pension contributions
  • Medical cash plan
  • Eligibility to our discretionary Group bonus
  • Holidays and sick pay

What qualifications will I gain?

We will fund your studies to achieve Insurance Practitioner level 3 incorporating an End Point Assessment.  You will be given training and hands-on experience to gain qualifications without going to university. The Apprenticeship will also support you to study the Chartered Institute of Insurance (CII) certificate, helping you gain a professional qualification within 18 months of joining the Group.

This is just the beginning of training with Alan Boswell Group – we are proud of our people and their contribution to our business so we provide support and training throughout your whole career with us.

Is an apprenticeship right for me?

Your personal qualities will be important to us – we want to employ a person, not a robot!

We look for someone who is:

  • Enthusiastic and motivated
  • Willing to learn and grow
  • Approachable, positive and focussed
  • Passionate about succeeding with a desire to start a career within the insurance industry
  • Good with computers and confident talking to people

Of course, these are all the qualities we’d love you to bring to Alan Boswell Group but don’t worry if you’re not sure – we’ll coach you and develop these skills throughout your apprenticeship.

What will I do day-to-day?

From day one you will be trained on our insurance products and systems so that you are working as one of the team, as any other new member of staff would be. Initially trained in one product, within a few weeks you will be working with your colleagues and speaking to our customers. You will be responsible for quoting new business, renewing policies and office administration as part of building a wide base of core insurance broking skills.

Throughout this scheme you will continue to build on your technical skills and develop your insurance product knowledge leading you to specialise into one of our many departments throughout the business.
