Alice Legood, 2018 apprentice

"I originally applied because I wanted a structured role where I could build a long-term career, and the company stood out as an excellent place to work, offering great staff benefits and a supportive, friendly atmosphere. I learnt so much during my apprenticeship, from finance options and commercial risks to renewal processes. Working at ABG also developed my interpersonal skills, particularly how to communicate with confidence. From the start, I was doing the same work as everyone else and never felt like “just an apprentice” – I was part of the team. That gave me a realistic view of the job and made me feel truly valued.

Since completing my apprenticeship, I’ve progressed from personal lines into the commercial handlers team, currently in the role of Executive Handler. Each step has brought new challenges and opportunities for growth, especially through interaction with the rest of the commercial team and handling complex cases. I’m enjoying not only the challenges, but also the continued opportunity to develop my skills, having since completed the Certificate in Insurance (CertCII), Diploma in Insurance (DipCII), and currently studying for the Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII)."

FAQs

I applied for an apprenticeship as I wanted to gain experience in a professional environment, and I was unsure what I wanted to do as a career. Since I joined, I have learnt how in-depth conflicted liability can be in terms of motor claims, the importance of good organisation, keeping on top of work, and how day-to-day life impacts your insurance. I really enjoy being part of a team in an office environment.
