Alan Boswell Financial Planners announces newest Financial Adviser

We’re pleased to announce the promotion of Brendan Tinney to the position of Financial Adviser. We’re especially pleased as Brendan joined the group as a graduate in 2019, meaning he has achieved this goal in just five years. His promotion underscores the Group’s commitment to training and development.

Brendan’s career with Alan Boswell Group [ABG] started in 2019 when he joined as part of the graduate scheme. During this time, Brendan has gained the Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning and worked in all areas of our Financial Planning Department, including our Administration and Technical Planner departments, building his wealth management and financial planning knowledge.

“We are delighted to announce Brendan’s promotion to Financial Adviser,” said Tony Robinson, Director at Alan Boswell Financial Planners. “Brendan’s dedication and proven track record make him the ideal candidate for this role.”

Brendan’s promotion expands the Group’s capacity at a time when it sees significant growth.

“We are seeing an increase in demand for our services due to a number of factors. These include continued complexity around pensions advice, unsettled investment markets, and people’s desire for a longer-term financial plan to help them achieve their goals for themselves and their family.” continues Tony. “We are confident that Brendan will provide clients with bespoke, tailored financial solutions that align with their unique goals and aspirations, and ensure clients get the best possible advice.”

We spoke to Brendan to get an insight into his journey to Financial Adviser.

How did your career in financial services start?

I have always been interested in the financial services sector, which led me to study this field at college and later university, where I graduated with a first-class honours degree in Business Management and Economics.

I’ve also had good practical exposure to the sector, as I started work in a high street bank in my late teens to early twenties, then worked at the Bank of Spain while living in Madrid before returning to the UK.

Being originally from Norwich, I was familiar with Alan Boswell Group, even doing a project on the group while at university. What stood out to me was how the Group has managed to maintain its community feel while continuing to expand and having the size and resources to keep up with the ever-changing financial environment. ABG truly has a client-centric approach and felt like the natural choice to progress my career. I was introduced to Adam Revell [Senior Financial Planner] shortly after moving back to Norwich, and he mentioned the graduate scheme. Two weeks after finishing university, I joined the firm.

So, you’ve been at ABG since 2019; what has your career path looked like?

I was on the graduate scheme until I passed the Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning through the CII [Chartered Insurance Institute]. During that time, I gained exposure to all areas of our financial services department, including personal wealth, corporate, and protection. Upon completing the diploma, I moved into a role as a Technical Planner, where I had the opportunity to work closely with many of our advisers, providing support to them and their clients, including in areas such as tax, legislation, and products.

I joined the Group just under five years ago with the intention of becoming an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA), and I am proud that, as of April this year, I have achieved this goal. As well as studying to pass all the various exams, the hands-on experience I have gained to date through working with the wider department has been the perfect grounding for me, as I understand, and have a greater appreciation of, the challenges and steps that need to be taken when providing clients with advice and then putting that into place.

What are your plans for your new role as Financial Adviser?

I will be predominantly based out of our Cambridge and Norwich offices. While my role has changed, and I will now be more client-facing, the objective is to work alongside our clients and other professionals to provide tailored advice and support.

I look forward to getting to know more of our clients and helping them achieve their financial goals.

I consider myself fortunate to work alongside a highly regarded group of Advisers, Technical Planners, and Administrators who have a great depth of experience and know-how. Working closely together means we achieve the best outcomes for our clients.

And are there any particular areas of specialism you’ll be focusing on?

I’ll be focusing on individual wealth and financial planning, using cashflow modelling, looking at pensions and investments, and holistically analysing an individual’s financial situation to put a plan in place to help them achieve their goals. Of course, as a company, we also take care of corporate wealth management too, which is where I would refer to my colleagues. I’m excited to meet lots of new people and see what I can do to help them!
