If your property is being renovated it’s important to ensure your home is adequately covered under a home renovation insurance policy, whether you remain living there or if you have temporarily moved out. Standard home insurance will not provide cover for a property left empty for over 30 days in a year or undergoing building works. Our home renovation insurance includes:

  • Cover for properties undergoing renovation
  • Cover for a wide range of perils
  • Flexible policies to suit your requirements
  • Property owners’ liability up to £2million
  • Policies from 1 to 12 months available

The Alan Boswell Group Difference

ABG Difference - Non Standard Home

Having dealt with a variety of insurance requirements over a number of years we appreciate that not all risks are standard. As an independent insurance broker we are not tied to any specific insurer enabling us to select from a range of products suitable for your needs. We work closely with insurers and have access to options many of our competitors do not.

How our customers rate us

They were very helpful in setting up renovation insurance on a ‘Project House’ that my wife and I have just bought. We’ve never done a substantial renovation on a house before, and their experience was reassuring.

FAQs

  • Yes you can, although at the outset it makes sense to overestimate the time involved as the pricing to extend is based on short-term policies.

  • You can add contents cover for any general items that are left in the property while work is being undertaken, such as furniture etc. However, if there is significant work being done to the property it is likely to create a lot of dust and dirt and therefore you may want to think about moving your valuables to storage for the duration.

  • No, the property must be wind and watertight and able to be kept secure. If the property is lacking windows for example, it can only be insured once the property has had these installed. Theft through negligence, i.e. the property being left unsecure, is also not covered under this policy.

  • Commercial properties undergoing renovation cannot be insured under a home renovation insurance policy. For more information please see our unoccupied commercial property insurance.

  • If you have a home insurance policy with renovations cover then you will be able to make a claim for alternative accommodation. However, an unoccupied property policy with renovations will not cover you for alternative accommodation.

  • Each policy is competitively priced and specifically tailored to the individual property. Price can vary depending on; the duration of the policy, the scale of the works, whether the property will be unoccupied, and other contributing risk factors. Please contact us for a quote.

  • Public liability insurance is included within the renovations policy. This indemnifies the owner for any amounts they become legally liable to pay for damages for bodily injury or damage to property caused by an accident happening in or on the property. Employers’ liability insurance is not included in our renovation insurance policy, any contractors you use should have this cover themselves.

  • No, this is not included in our home renovations insurance.
