At 18 Gary joined Commercial Union Insurance in Leicester as an A-Level trainee on their two-year comprehensive induction programme, rising to be an inspector based in Peterborough.

After nine years, Gary moved to specialist life and pensions insurer Provident Mutual, which he left in 1987 to create the forerunner of Bentley Charles Ltd, based in Spalding, Lincolnshire. Following a location change to the Deepings in 2001, the business was sold to Alan Boswell Group in 2012. Gary manages the office and looks after established accounts.

After completing the London Marathon twice in the last decade, Gary is now an avid cyclist and competes in races throughout the year. Gary still supports Leicester City Football Club and attends home games with his son as often as possible. His wife is a former PE teacher who “encourages” his sporty pastimes.
