Alan Boswell Financial Planners announces newest Financial Planner

We’re pleased to announce the promotion of Nicholas Powell to the position of Financial Planner. Nick has been with Alan Boswell Financial Planners since October 2023, having joined as a Technical Planner.

Nick began his career in financial planning in 2018, starting in an administrative position at a restricted financial planning firm. Nick joined having previously gained the Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning at his previous firm. Since joining, Nick has worked closely with our Advisers and Directors to build his knowledge of wealth management and holistic financial planning.

"We are pleased to announce Nick’s promotion to Financial Planner," said Tony Robinson, Director at Alan Boswell Financial Planners. "Nick has worked closely with our Advisory team and his hands-on experience across both administrative and technical functions perfectly positions him to provide expert financial advice to our clients.”

We spoke to Nick to get an insight into his journey to Financial Planner.

How did your career in financial services start?

I’ve always had an interest in the financial services sector. I completed a Level 4 Certificate in Financial Services through the London Institute of Banking while at college. After this, I joined a restricted financial planning firm on an apprenticeship, initially working in an administration role. Over the five years I spent there, I built a solid understanding of financial planning principles, along with gaining my Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning. That experience has been invaluable and continues to inform my work today.

After several years at a non-independent firm, I was seeking a new opportunity with an independent firm that had a supportive, nurturing culture that focused on long-term client relationships. Alan Boswell Financial Planners is well-regarded in the local financial services community for supporting career progression, and I was pleased to join the company in 2023 as a Technical Planner.

Since joining ABG in 2023, how has your career path evolved?

Joining Alan Boswell Financial Planners was the natural progression for me, allowing me to build on the knowledge I had gained and expand it further. I always wanted to be a Financial Planner, and when I joined ABG, there was a clear commitment to support me in progressing into that role.

In the Technical Planner role, I collaborated closely with our Advisers and gained hands-on experience in areas such as cash flow modelling, tax planning, investments, and financial legislation. I was also given the opportunity to attend client meetings and build on my soft skills and presentations.

On the technical side, I supported Advisers by researching financial strategies, recommending products, and preparing client reports. Working across both administrative and technical roles has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the full financial planning process.

What are your plans for your new role as Financial Planner?

I enjoy connecting with people, so I'm excited to meet new clients and expand my professional network. I believe holistic financial planning is about helping individuals achieve their goals through personalised advice. I look forward to applying everything I’ve learned to deliver a complete experience for clients.

One of the great things about working at ABG is the wealth of knowledge within the team. The collaborative culture means we always share our best ideas and work closely as a team on clients’ affairs. This means I will continue to develop through working closely with our experienced Advisers, Technical Planners, and Administrators. Looking ahead, I plan to work towards Chartered status and further develop my skills as I continue to grow within the business.
